The Department of Anthropology Photograph Archive is located in the Anthropology Department at the University of Auckland. It is a closed access collection of approximately 80,000 images, (most in negative format) and fieldwork notebooks covering the ethnography of New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.
The collection records early social anthropology and archaeological research expeditions in New Zealand and the Pacific from the 1950’s to present. The archive is a growing collection but unfortunately older images are in a state of deterioration. In order to preserve images a digitisation project is underway.
The archive is accessible to University of Auckland staff and students for research and teaching purposes.
